We Should Write Sometime — Creating a Global Writer’s Room

In a city filled with songwriters, Kevin McCarty and Richard Casper found it was harder than ever to find the right person to write with. We Should Write Sometime connects artists with the right collaborators to fuel their creativity.

Kevin McCarty identified a problem that could only become obvious in Nashville. In a city full of songwriters, finding the right person to write with can still come down to timing, proximity and luck.

In 2019, Kevin looked to fix this. He co-founded We Should Write Sometime with Richard Casper to help songwriters find collaborators more easily, whether they are across town or across the world.

The app has been described as “Tinder for songwriters” by Rolling Stone Magazine, but Kevin is building toward something bigger than a match. He is using technology to scale the writer’s room.

For songwriters, the right collaborator can change everything. We Should Write Some Time supports that human process with technology, helping writers find the people, chemistry and creative momentum they need.

Nashville’s creative culture made the need visible. Ranked No. 2 for creative-class growth, it is a place where songwriting is part of everyday life. Nashville’s collaborative nature helped the company grow. Technology made the solution scalable.

Through the Nashville Entrepreneur Center’s In-Flight cohort and the Torch Collective, Kevin found founder support, investor connections and practical relationships that helped the company grow. Kevin praised Nashville’s culture that made it easy “to pick up the phone and text and introduce people without feeling like you need to reciprocate it."

“I can't imagine there being a better place [to build] than Nashville,” said Kevin.
